This is why you are seeing these plain black images on your timeline #BlackOutTuesday

About a week ago; George Floyd, an African-American man in the US lost his life after suffering asphyxia after being arrested by police outside a shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Video footage of a white police officer continuing to kneel on Mr. Floyd’s neck even after he pleaded he could not breathe has reignited deep-seated anger over police killings of black Americans.

Mr. Floyd’s death is the latest in the series of publicly documented death of blacks in the United States in 2020. Back in February, Ahmaud Marquez Arbery, an unarmed 25-year-old African-American, was fatally shot in Georgia.

To bring attention to the series of protest happening all across the world, social media users across the world have resorted to posting blank black square posts to show their sentiments concerning this issue. That’s why you are seeing those plain black images on your timeline. People who wish to join to show their support are urged to post black squares with the #blackouttuesday.
