The president of Ghana was honored with a standing ovation during the late George Flyod’s memorial service in the U.S. on 9th June 2020.
A resolution read by social impact leader and CEO of Ivy Inc. Ivy McGregor acknowledged Ghana’s solidarity with the family.
“The entire family of the late Mr. Flyod is honored by the President’s decision to have Mr. Flyod’s name permanently mounted on the historic Sankofa wall at the Diaspora in the WEB Dubois Centre in Africa”.
Miss Ivy also expressed the family’s gratitude to Ghana’s solidarity which was made evident in the decision to hold a memorial service to change the status quo of racism and prejudice amidst the standing ovation.
Mr. Floyd was killed on May 25 at Minneapolis, Minnesota in the US. He died from asphyxia after Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, pressed his knee to Floyd’s neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds during an arrest.
