Teachers across Ghana are pushing back on the government’s directive for schools to resume normal school term, citing safety concerns.
Last weekend, the president called for the reopening of schools and subsequently promised teachers and students of their safety as they go back to school starting on the 8th of June. But Ghana’s teachers’ unions have come out to say they would not resume unless these promises have been fulfilled by the government.
Speaking to the issue, Mr. Angel Carbonu, the president of the teachers’ union NAGRAT, outlined the high risk that both teachers and students will be exposed to if safety measures are not taken into due consideration.
He called on the government to ensure the optimal safety of both teachers and students else the teachers will not go back to the classroom.
