Ten persons have been sentenced by the Accra Circuit Court for going contrary to Covid-19 restrictions.
Yahaya Alhassan, a journalist and nine others were arrested on May 5th for demonstrating around the private residence of President Akufo Addo. They were later presented to the court where they pleaded guilty to their crime.
They have been sentenced to a fine of ¢12,000 which attracts a four-year jail term if not paid. The court found each of them guilty for violating section 1(1) of the public order act and failure to adhere to restrictions placed on public gathering.
Their case the court believes will serve as a deterrent to others who may try to disregard any of the Covid-19 restrictions.
